This intricate vintage Paddles Mola blouse has a basic traditional design of four kami, paddles for weaving hammocks. It also incorporates other figures of a household to create a lively scene with people, animals, fish, birds, and chicha jars to hold the fermented corn drink used in ritual ceremonies.
(Front) This blouse follows the traditional Guna criteria of "same but different" where the basic pattern is the same on both panels, but the colors and filler elements are different. The traditional technique of reverse applique is complemented here with positive applique, filler slits, and embroidered overstitching. This blouse is in remarkably good condition and may have only been worn once to a ceremony.
